<cem>sorry I haven't been online for a while, and haven't been pushing package updates either
<cem>trying to graduate and stuff
<cem>whereiseveryone: I have never actually tried nix so I can only talk out of my ass in this situation
<cem>But I will still talk about it, because that's how I am as a person :^)
<cem>The concept is honestly nice, but I don't understand the point of reproducible builds
<cem>(For a personal computer)
<cem>I would perhaps find it useful if I was managing a fleet of servers, or had multiple computers that I had to frequently switch between
<cem>But I have a single computer, and manage like 3 servers with different distros and completely separated purposes
<cem>So I feel like it would be too much of an overhead for me to setup nix, with very little to gain

<whereiseveryone>That's a good point. I had a conversation recently with a software developer/friend recently that I respect a lot who voiced a similar opinion although in the context of pex files (another rabbit hole).
<whereiseveryone>I also fix the concept of derivations in nix/guix to be interesting but I agree that the whole system and abstraction has a very large "cost of ownership"
<whereiseveryone>guix also has issues with regards to performance that might not get ironed out any time soon and would require much specialist knowledge in a complex/complicated system to figure out
<whereiseveryone>at least for my skill set

<mcf>nice
<mcf>it really bugs me when people ask if any of my projects are dead

<cem>mcf: yes it usually bugs me as well
<cem>Especially with projects that I consider complete and only doing bug fixes and stuff
<cem>If you have an issue just ask for help for the issue, otherwise what difference does it make whether the last commit was 2 hours ago vs 2 years ago
<cem>As always I'll blame web devs :^) For the existence of this mindset in this instance
