<kris_>knowing someone who works at intel
<sad_plan>I have a file which compared compiler flags across distros, and clear linux is one of those. its mostly because I wanna have a tldr of sorts, so that I can find some more *optimal* compiler flags, if anything
<sad_plan>I see
<kris_>i need to look into actually using clear linux somewhere though, i've never actually used it
<sad_plan>me neither. maybe ill check it out some day
<kris_>i tend to stay away from things that have that level of corporate involvement
<kris_>given it's *literally* intels distro
<sad_plan>perhaps, but we could reference it instead, and maybe benefit from it, atleast in terms of performance. but as you said, its probably negliable
<sad_plan>so if I were to compare cachyOS and my oakiss, i probably wouldnt be able to tell the difference
<sad_plan>appart from diskspace usage perhaps, because my distro is probably half the size :p
<kris_>i think the biggest speed lift on my own desktop ive seen in a long time was linux 6.14
<kris_>i couldn't even begin to tell you what the difference is but it's huge
<kris_>that's kind of predictable though given i'm on a core ultra cpu which is the first cpu of its kind from intel so there's still scheduler work being done
<sad_plan>hm, and here I am on 5.4.xxx on my laptop. lol
<kris_>i run a handful of different kernels
<kris_>my desktop is only on latest because of amdgpu bugs on 6.12, which is the current LTS, and void pretty much always hops from LTS to LTS for the default kernel
<kris_>everything else i have is on 6.12.*
<kris_>^ said bug only matters for gaming
<sad_plan>I see

<kris_>ive had such a bad track record with amdgpu recently that i'd probably knee jerk purchase an nvidia gpu if their drivers actually worked on musl
<kris_>for the moment it's fine though
<sad_plan>the performance difference between nvidia and noveua is negliable if you ask me. atleast lat time I checked. theres some features missing though, like temp reading
<sad_plan>this was atleast in my case. others experience might differ
<sad_plan>I did however have some issues with noveau, today actually. I was trying to launch couple of the games I just downloaded, and kept getting a black screen if I didnt alt-tab out of the game. for some wierd reason..
<sad_plan>seems the driver is somewhat hit or miss
<kris_>do you mean nvk or just oldschool nouveau
<kris_>because on newer gpus raw nouveau can't upclock
<kris_>unless it's changed recently
<kris_>i dont really know much about how that ecosystem of software works, i havent owned an nvidia card in a while
<kris_>if i were to get a new gpu right now it'd probably be an intel arc b580 because i do a lot of video work and it's more or less identical to my 6700xt as far as gaming performance goes
<sad_plan>I think its just nouveau chimera linux was using. I didnt have any issues on chimera anyway
