<muevoid>Currently using it for notes, calendar, email, (irc I switch between erc and kirc), and programming
<muevoid>Oh
<muevoid>Nvm I read that wrong
<muevoid>Yes I use doom emacs
<merakor>Doom is pretty good
<muevoid>I'm thinking about trying out vanilla emacs and slowly building up my config but doom emacs is quite comfy.
<merakor>It is lightweight compared to other flavours
<muevoid>Yeah I tried out spacemacs but wasn't my favorite
<merakor>Yeah, I tried that as well
<merakor>It uses so much system resource
<muevoid>How much do you use emacs for? Purely a text editor or more?
<merakor>I use it almost for everything :P
<muevoid>I'm thinking about starting to slowly get there
<muevoid>I am really liking it so far
<muevoid>the only downside to doom emacs is it needs ripgrep and mue-linux is no rust
<muevoid>Which is why I am considering going with vanilla emacs
<muevoid>That and just to be able to fully customize everything
<merakor>You can package the static binary of ripgrep
<merakor>So it doesn't require rust
<muevoid>Im very stubborn I also like everything that is possible to be source based
<merakor>Haskell and rust is my exception for those :D
<muevoid>Do you know the evil mode for searching buffers?
<mcf>just curious, what does an emacs distribution provide?
<merakor>Basically lots of packages preconfigured for new-comers
<merakor>What do you mean by searching buffers?
<muevoid>Doom emacs at least has quite a few evil mode forked plugins and built with that in mind. It's also super easy to decide what you want. Also doom emacs is built in mind with being able to edit like default emacs things.
<muevoid>If I do C-x C-b it pulls up a list of all buffers and I can choose one
<muevoid>But I'm not sure if there is an evil mode equivalent keybind by default.
<merakor>It is the same
<merakor>Evil basically only affects in-buffer bindings
<muevoid>gotcha
<muevoid>Oh doom emacs has one binded with leader key
<muevoid>
<mcf>ah, i see. i've only ever used emacs with agda (and quite inefficiently, i never learned how to use it properly)
<muevoid>Gotcha
<muevoid>So do you also use emacs as your terminal emulator?
<merakor>No, emacs is terrible at terminal emulation
<merakor>I use st
<muevoid>I haven't tried it I'm just still using foot
<muevoid>I probably won't attempt to use it was just more of curious if you had
<merakor>mcf: Emacs takes time to learn, but it really payed off for me
<merakor>There is like a c++ terminal emulator package for emacs that I have never tried
<muevoid>I can't really talk much about vanilla emacs but using doom emacs it is quite comfy after coming from vim. And it let's me slowly try to learn emacs itself
<muevoid>I know it has libvterm or something
<muevoid>As an option
<merakor>Yeah, that was it
<muevoid>I've heard it is really good but have yet to try it as I personally don't see the point
<muevoid>The way I use my window manager defeats the point for that aspect of it being in emacs
<merakor>I don't know if you know Adam, he hasn't been participating on the community for a long time. I started by checking out his custom configuration
<merakor>I used exwm for a while
