<sad_plan>so ironically, you could create your own ubuntu fork, but without apt
<sad_plan>kiss-bin isnt a command, but a repo. but its dead in the water afaik :p
<sad_plan>but yes, pm is in C, for better of for worse I suppose
<sad_plan>s/of/or/
<sewn>how would fetching, building, making a tar (sometimes by hand) and installing it via pm any better than kiss b pkg
<midfavila>it satisfies my fussiness better than kiss does
angerisagiftquit (Ping timeout: 248 seconds)
<sad_plan>its also worth noting that is 1k less LOC, however, I dont like that fact that it depends ond libarchive
<sad_plan>midfavila: could you be more specific? or do you just.. like it more? give you that fuzzy feeling or something like that
<midfavila>sad_plan i'm going to try and patch it so that it can use ncompress
<midfavila>i include ncompress on all my systems and ncompress is freestanding and quite small
<midfavila>but yeah no i basically just like pm

<midfavila>like i said the process reminds me a lot of slackware
<midfavila>and i've always liked slackware's method, just never what it ships with
<midfavila>as oxymoronic as it sounds, if i could get a minimal slackware, i would be super chuffed
<midfavila>super minimal slackware-style machine, 64-bit clean, zero blobs, only C in the base system...
<midfavila>alternatively i bet i could patch pm to use zlib
<midfavila>that would be nice

<midfavila>oh fuck that's way too long
<midfavila>why would you do that
<midfavila>anyway this is neat
<midfavila>controlling a coffee roaster using a uconsole
<sad_plan>I can relate. theres lots of cool projects around, but because it uses *something* as opposed to *something else*, all of a sudden, it doesnt fit the bill correctly
<midfavila>that's my entire existence
<midfavila>it's pain
<midfavila>the uconsole is really close but mannnnn
<midfavila>it's still not perfect
<midfavila>the gpio situation is a mess
<sad_plan>I can relate. I see so much cool shit, which would be soo close to be truly awesome, but no. they somehow ruined it by making some choice down the road..
<midfavila>mmrh.
<sad_plan>can you make calls with the uconsole btw? I was looking at some posts regarding linux phones, and theres not alot tbh
<midfavila>yes
<midfavila>i've made calls before
<midfavila>albeit only in testing
fultiltjoined
<midfavila>you would need a headset or headphones with an inline mic
<midfavila>but beyond that it's just a matter of echoing the relevant hayes commands into the modem
<midfavila>with the cm4 you could use gnome software
<sad_plan>awesome
<midfavila>i've also gotten sms to work that way
<sad_plan>I would be interested in a linux phone, but for those that ive know of, theyre rather awefull
<midfavila>i'm working on getting librem's sms plugin for libpurple as well
<sad_plan>cool
<midfavila>yeb
<midfavila>i'm hoping if i ever have time to learn hardware design i can modify the mainboard to be a little more...
<midfavila>...practical
<midfavila>tbf tho if you get a uconsole treat it like a pine64 device
